President Speaks About Death Of Bin Laden 5-08-2011
"Tonight I can report to the American people and to the world, the United States has conducted an operation that has killed Osama Bin Laden the leader of Al Qaeda," said President Obama during an address. It was last Sunday when Osama Bin Laden was killed on the third floor of a compound in Pakistan as part of a plan that has been in the works since August of last year. "I felt that the risks were outweighed by the potential benefit of us finally getting our man," said the President. It was a well kept secret. One the President didn't share with his family or even some of his closest cabinet members. It all happened from the Situation Room where the attack was monitored in real time. The President and his top aides knew what was happening in and around the compound but not inside."We had a sense about when gun fire and explosions took place," said the President. He went on to say he knows there is no doubt that Bin Laden was killed, but with so many people wanting to see a photo, this was his response."It is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody that was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence, as a propaganda tool." And in the end the President says as nervous as he was about this whole process, the one thing I didn't lose sleep over was the possibility of taking Bin Laden down.
