PHOENIXMaricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio sent a letter today to Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster warning him that his popular website provides a "mechanism" to facilitate criminal activity.
The letter was in response to an incident last month, when sheriff's detectives arrested two men, one an elementary school teacher and the other a handyman, on charges of conspiracy to commit bestiality. The undercover investigation was launched after detectives became aware that individuals were using Craigslist to engage in illegal sex acts with animals.
"I would hope that Mr. Buckmaster takes my advice seriously and looks into our concerns," Arpaio said in a news release. "I think it is sad that people would utilize technology to take advantage of animals like this."
Bestiality has been a felony in Arizona since 2006, after sheriff's deputies arrested a deputy fire chief for attempting to fornicate with a sheep.
