Web porn business found at Scottsdale home

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Neil Berens suspected something was just a little "off" with the big new house that was built at the end of his south Scottsdale cul de sac.

"We noticed all of the traffic going in and out and we were like, 'What's going on here?'" Berens said.

"It is an adult business. It's an adult pornographic business," said neighbor Paulette Wiley, after seeing a CBS 5 Investigation into a similar business. That story aired in November of 2009.

Kip Merritt, a neighbor, also thought something strange was happening.

"These scantily-clad gals would run into the house," said Merritt.

Berens, Wiley and Merritt were among a group of eight neighbors who gathered at a home in the neighborhood to share their stories and suspicions with CBS 5 Investigates.

The owners of the business that appeared in the 2009 story are the same two men running the Scottsdale homes, CBS 5 News confirmed.

"There's a couch and a TV in the living room. There are three bedrooms upstairs," said an employee of the business, who agreed to speak to CBS 5 News if her identity were withheld.
She said she works as an Internet stripper, removing her clothes and performing sexual acts for paying customers over the web.

"I'm basically looking at a screen, watching myself strip," she said.

Neighbors said they worry about the traffic in and out of the house, as well as any effects on their young children, who often play in the street in front of the house.

"I actually called the police and filed a complaint with the police department," said Berens.
Berens and others said they are frustrated with what they call a lack of action by the city of Scottsdale code enforcement office.

"The city really didn't sound like they wanted to do much," said Joey Spadafore, who lives just down the street from the house.

CBS 5 News contacted Scottsdale officials, who issued the following statement:

The city currently has an on-going civil home occupation prosecution involving the owner of this property. The city enforcement process under the zoning code requires that prior to escalating to more serious charges that a property owner be found responsible for a civil violation. A previous successful previous civil prosecution involving the property involved a different legal owner.

CBS 5 News learned the business does not fall under the category of an adult business, which would have made it easier to regulate, because the clients do not physically visit the location. Instead, they log onto an adult website.

The owner of the home declined to comment to CBS 5 News, but neighbors said on Sunday the owners pulled up to the house with a U-Haul truck and cleaned the place out.

In 2009, after a CBS 5 Investigation exposed the business operating near the Arcadia neighborhood in Phoenix, the owners closed that location. It is unknown if they are relocating to another neighborhood.
