PHOENIXFor weeks Tammi Smith has been speaking freely and at length on local and national TV about missing baby Gabriel Johnson. But Thursday after a three-hour meeting with her attorney, Smith had very little to say and made only a short statement.
"Please understand that I just can't be giving a lot of statements right now as to specifics. But we are very confident in the defense that we have going on right now," said Smith outside attorney Michael Kimerer's office.
Smith went on to say that she has been willing to talk with media because she knows that helps keep the story alive and her goal is to keep Gabriel's face and name in the news in hopes of finding him.
Smith was arrested Tuesday by Tempe police who believe she helped Gabriel's mom, Elizabeth Johnson, keep the boy from his father who shares custody. She was charged Wednesday with one count of custodial interference and one count of forgery. The forgery charge stems from her alleged falsification of Johnson's custody papers.
Smith is out on bond. Her next court appearance is set for Feb. 8.
