PHOENIX -- The Arizona Geek Squad will offer free DTV converter box installation and perform several other services through June 30.Installers will connect up to two of a household's DTV converter boxes to existing broadcast antennas and analog TVs.In addition, installers will:Adjust existing antennas Scan and re-scan converter boxes Integrate an existing VCR Provide guidance on the operation of the converter box To request the free installation, people can call the DTV conversion hotline at 877-BBY-DTV9 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. CST daily.
The only additional equipment required to view over-the-air digital programming with a DTV is a regular antenna, either on your roof or a smaller version on your TV such as “rabbit ears.”If you have an analog television, you will have to purchase a digital-to-analog set-top converter box to attach to your TV set to be able to view over-the-air digital programming.Take some time and browse through the KPHO.com Countdown To Digital section for answers to your many questions.
Other Important Information
The national transition to DTV is set for June 12. At that time, federal law requires that all full-power television broadcast stations stop broadcasting in analog format and transmit only in digital format.Congress mandated the conversion to all-digital television broadcasting several years ago.Digital TV offers a better viewing experience with vastly improved picture and sound quality. If you receive only free over-the-air television programming, the type of TV you own, either a digital TV or an analog TV, is important.Consumers who receive only free over-the-air television may view digital programming through a TV set with a built-in digital or a digital-ready monitor with a separate digital tuner set-top box. (Both of these digital television types are referred to as a DTV).| GUIDE: Understanding What You Need To Do |
