Translators & DTV Transition
Many KPHO viewers who live outside of the Phoenix metro area watch our station on translator stations that broadcast our signal on a channel other than channel 5.Translators are low power transmitters and, unlike full power transmitters like channel 5, they are not required to discontinue analog broadcasting on June 12, 2009. Many translators will continue to broadcast analog signals for three or four more years. If you intend to use a digital converter box to watch signals from translator stations then you need to be sure that you use a converter box that has analog pass through capability.Converter boxes with analog pass through capability can receive both analog and digital signals, so as the translators in your area convert to digital you will be able to watch the new digital signals and the remaining analog signals using the same converter box.KPHO owns the following four translators which will continue to broadcast an analog signal after June 12, 2009. We do not have any immediate plans to convert these to digital transmission.Channel 40: Cottonwood, Clarkdale, CornvilleChannel 50: FlagstaffChannel 59: Globe, MiamiChannel 9: PrescottThese organizations also own translators that carry KPHO:Bouse Booster Club
