New Orleans Saints 2009 NFL Draft Review

(Sports Network) -

1 - Malcolm Jenkins, DB, Ohio State (6-0, 204); 4 - Chip Vaughn, S, Wake Forest (6-1, 221); 4 - Stanley Arnoux, LB, Wake Forest (6-0, 232); 5 - Thomas Morstead, P, SMU (6-4, 225)

Analysis: To the surprise of just about no one, the Saints' only pick of the first three rounds was used on the best available defender, Ohio State's Jenkins. Jenkins lacks top-end speed and might eventually become a safety, but he immediately becomes the top player in the New Orleans secondary no matter what position he plays. When the Saints were finally on the clock again on Sunday afternoon, they went for further secondary depth in the person of Vaughn, who will at the very least be a solid special-teamer. Arnoux, Vaughn's Demon Deacons teammate, is strictly a special-teamer. New Orleans used a fifth-round selection on Morstead, rated by most as the top punter in the Draft.

Bottom Line: Weren't very active due to past trades, but Jenkins and Vaughn have a chance to make an impact for the secondary, the team's biggest area of need.

Grade: B
