Robredo, Gasquet Land In Estoril QFs

POSTED: 11:06 am MST May 3, 2007

(Sports Network) - Second-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo and fifth-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet were among Thursday's second-round winners at the Estoril Open, a clay-court French Open tune-up.

The 2005 Estoril runner-up Robredo came from behind to beat his qualifier fellow Spaniard Alberto Martin 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-2, while Gasquet grounded Portuguese wild card Frederico Gil 6-1, 6-2 at National Stadium. Robredo was down a set and 0-3 before mounting a big comeback against the dangerous Martin.

Robredo will face seventh-seeded Argentine Agustin Calleri in Friday's quarterfinals, while Gasquet will encounter unseeded American Vincent Spadea.

The 2003 Estoril runner-up Calleri was leading Juan Martin del Potro 7-5, 1-0 on Day 5 when his fellow Argentine retired due to a fever.

Spadea advanced with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over French qualifier Olivier Patience.

Friday's other quarters will pit third-seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic against Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu versus Argentine Juan Monaco. Djokovic captured the Masters Series event in Miami last month, while a red-hot Mathieu has won his last seven matches, including a title in Casablanca last week.
