PHOENIX -- Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard filed papers Friday to form an exploratory committee for a possible gubernatorial run, according to a news release.

Goddard, a Democrat, first announced his filing through social media site Twitter, writing, "Today I will file papers to explore running for Governor. AZ needs strong leadership focused on jobs (and) ending partisan gridlock."

In the news release, Goddard said the government's top priorities should be "restoring and attracting quality jobs."

Goddard is not the first to throw his or her hat into the ring. On Thursday, Republican Gov. Jan Brewer announced she was running for re-election.
