Simpson's Murder Trial Revisted

O.J. Simpson was charged with the June 12, 1994, murders of his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, after the two were found stabbed to death outside Brown's Brentwood, Calif., home.

Simpson failed to show up voluntarily for a June 17 arraignment. Later in the day, he and friend Al Cowlings, in a white Ford Bronco, led police on a nationally televised slow-speed chase through Los Angeles.

Simpson was arraigned June 21 and pleaded not guilty to the murder charges. A grand jury assembled to consider indicting him was dismissed after two days on the grounds that excessive media coverage tainted the jury pool.

A California superior judge ruled on July 7 that there was ample evidence to try Simpson for the murders. On July 23, Simpson again pleaded not guilty.

Simpson's criminal trial began on Jan. 25, 1995. On Oct.. 3, the jury found him not guilty of murder.

On Feb. 5, 1997, Simpson was found liable in a civil suit for the wrongful death of Ronald Goldman, battery against Ronald Goldman, and battery against Nicole Brown in civil trial. He was ordered to pay $33,500,000 in damages.

Goldman's father later challenged Simpson to obtain control over his "right to publicity" in order to satisfy the judgment in the civil court case.

A federal judge issued a restraining order on Simpson Jan. 4, 2007, prohibiting Simpson from spending any advance he may have received on a canceled TV and book deal. The ruling was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction.

A California state judge issued a new restraining order against Simpson on Jan. 19, restricting Simpson to spending "ordinary and necessary living expenses."

A Los Angeles County superior court judge ruled March 13 that Simpson could not receive any further compensation from a canceled book deal and TV interview, and ordered the bundled book rights to be auctioned off.

Nearly a year after O.J. Simpson walked into a Las Vegas hotel room intent on reclaiming some sports memorabilia, lawyers in his robbery-kidnapping trial began picking a jury for trial in the matter.

Simpson and co-defendant Clarence Stewart have pleaded not guilty to 12 charges stemming from a heated encounter with two sports collectibles dealers. Charges include burglary, coercion and assault with a deadly weapon.
