Arizona Cardinals 2009 NFL Draft Review
(Sports Network) -1 - Chris "Beanie" Wells, RB, Ohio State (6-1, 237); 2 - Cody Brown, DE/OLB, Connecticut (6-2, 244); 3 - Rashad Johnson, S, Alabama (5-11, 203); 4 - Gregory Toler, CB, St. Paul's (5-11, 185); 5 - Herman Johnson, G, LSU (6-7, 364); 6 - Will Davis, DE, Illinois (6-2, 261); 7 - LaRod Stephens-Howling, RB, Pittsburgh (5-7, 180); 7 - Trevor Canfield, G, Cincinnati (6-5, 308) Analysis: The Cardinals needed a running back in a big way, and had to be thrilled that Wells fell all the way to them at No. 31. Wells' foot issues and less-than-ideal speed dropped him down the charts of some teams, but his one- cut, downhill ability would seem to fit Ken Whisenhunt's offensive scheme to a tee. Look for him to share time with Tim Hightower initially before becoming Arizona's lead back. Brown, the Cardinals' second-round pick, was the Big East sack leader in 2008 and will be counted on to provide pressure off the edge. Johnson, one of the best pure safeties in this Draft, was a good value pick for the Cardinals at No. 95 and may eventually be able to replace the disappointing Antrel Rolle. Toler might initially back another former small- college pick, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Johnson isn't a sure thing, but is a pure run-blocker who will have a shot. Bottom Line: Every pick fit a need, and Wells and Brown in particular should make an immediate impact. Grade: A-
