Saints Release DT Young

POSTED: 11:33 am MST April 28, 2009

(Sports Network) - The New Orleans Saints released defensive tackle Brian Young on Tuesday.

Young, a nine-year veteran out of UTEP, spent the last five seasons with the Saints. In 2008, he played in eight games -- three starts -- and recorded 13 tackles and a sack.

"This was a very difficult decision to make," said Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. "Brian is one of the hardest working individuals I have ever met, and I have as much respect for him as any player I have ever been associated with. We will miss his passion for the game."

Prior to his stint in New Orleans, Young spent four seasons with the Rams. In 123 contests -- 89 starts -- he has compiled 298 tackles, 22 1/2 sacks and an interception.

Better play over their last four games has the Carolina Panthers thinking they can get back into the playoff mix. A win over the undefeated New Orleans Saints this weekend would go a long way in validating those beliefs.
