Marya Piani

CBS 5 News Reporter

Marya Piani has been with CBS 5 News since 1995 when she started as a reporter. Before coming to CBS 5, she graduated from ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Broadcasting and reported for WHOI-TV in Peoria, Ill.

Marya was born in Santa Monica, Calif. She says she's wanted be a reporter ever since 4th grade, when she played one in a school play.

Her hobbies include: spending time with her husband Jim and their two children, running, hiking, yoga, snow skiing, race-walking marathons with her mom, traveling and visiting museums.

Marya is asthmatic. Because it hits close to home for her, she volunteers time to the American Lung Association. She has received a volunteer award for her involvement in Camp-Not-a Wheeze and their Open Airways program. She is also a current member of their communications committee.

Marya also supports the efforts of other charities such as Waste-Not, the Salvation Army, and Friends for Life.

Interesting factoid: Marya worked for four years in a full-service gas station in California pumping gas. Some of her customers were Donna Summer, Robert Wagner and Frankie Avalon.
