Omadelle Nelson joined CBS 5 as a general assignment reporter in September 2006.

Omadelle was born in Guyana, South America and then migrated to the United States with her family. That may be why she's never shied away from a new adventure. Her work in broadcast journalism has taken her across the country, from New England to the Southwest.

Before coming to CBS 5, Omadelle worked at KJRH in Tulsa, Okla., as a reporter, but her television career began in Atlantic City, N.J., at WMGM. The stories she covered included the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the Miss America pageant when its home was Atlantic City. Omadelle is especially proud of her own series in which she explored the area's arts, culture and tourism.

Omadelle hosted several community forum talk shows in New Jersey and Connecticut. Before entering the broadcasting arena, she worked in marketing and public relations in her home state of Connecticut.

Omadelle holds a B.A. in mass media communication from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. In her first year at CBS 5 she was awarded an inaugural Media Excellency award by the Phoenix chapter of NABJ. She also received a local media award from Langston University in Tulsa.

Her family still lives in Connecticut and she tries to visit them every chance she gets, but Omadelle is proud to call the Valley of the Sun her new home.
