School District To Decide On New Janitorial Contract

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Scottsdale Unified School District will decide Tuesday night whether to approve a contract with Bonded Contract Cleaning.The district has been looking for a new company since a janitor with ABM Janitorial Services was accused of raping a Saguaro High School freshman on campus.The janitor, Roberto Retana, was later found to be an illegal immigrant. The district says the company's background checks weren't as stringent as the contract stipulated.Scottsdale's contract with ABM will be officially severed on Oct. 11.
Bonded Contract Cleaning said if it's hired, it will have an outside company review the state and federal background checks it conducts on employees who work in Scottsdale's schools.Retana is being held without bail on seven counts of felony charges.
