Teacher Stole Laptop, Police Say

PHOENIX -- Surprise police arrested a substitute elementary school teacher Wednesday on theft charges, authorities said.According to a news release from the Surprise Police Department, Jeannette Guyer, 42, is accused of stealing a laptop from Desert Moon Elementary School.Guyer was a substitute teacher at Desert Moon Elementary school, and an inventory audit conducted during winter break discovered that the laptop assigned to her was missing, police said.Dysart school district officials told officers that they had installed a tracking software on all their computers, which allows authorities to trace a computer's location, police said.The computer was traced to Guyer, who was living in Pennsylvania at the time; however, officers believed she would move back to Arizona soon, police said.At the end of January, officers confirmed that Guyer had moved back to Surprise, and on Wednesday, they served a search warrant for her home on West Hayden Drive, police said.Officers found the missing laptop at the home, and Guyer was arrested, police said.Guyer was charged with theft and possession of stolen property. The computer was returned to Dysart school officials.
