An east Valley teenager was rushed to the hospital Monday, after someone knocked on her front door, then opened fire.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. in an Apache Junction neighborhood.

According to police, Erica Johnson, 19, thought the person at the door was interested in buying the house, which is up for sale.

Police said Johnson spoke to the man briefly, then watched as the man pulled out a gun and shot her through the screen door.

Johnson ran into the house and called 911 and the gunman ran off, police said.

Johnson was flown to the Maricopa County Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her shoulder.

Police Capt. Tom Kelly said they are hoping to interview Johnson to help determine a possible motive.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 20s, medium build with brownish hair.

If you have any information about this shooting, contact the Apache Junction Police Department.
