PHOENIX -- It was a big blow over the weekend when two Habitat For Humanity houses near Baseline and 12th Street burned to the ground.Monique Hernandez and her 5-year-old son Joaquin were hard at work helping build their new home, but just hours after completing some major work, they found out it had burned to the ground.Hernandez said, "I shed a couple of tears and it was really hurtful."Nevertheless, a big group of volunteers showed up Wednesday night to celebrate the true spirit of the season and put a positive spin on a less than ideal situation.Habitat For Humanity Central Arizona President Roger Schwierjohn said, "Rather than look back on something negative, we'd rather look forward and say you know, this is a great community, we're glad to be apart of it."Schwierjohn said they will rebuild the homes on the same lots. It will put Hernandez's house right where it should be, albeit a little behind schedule.Fire investigators are still checking into just what caused this blaze. They said at this point it does look suspicious.Habitat will start tearing down what's left once the investigation is complete. They said Hernandez can move in by the end of June.
