Mourners Remember Fallen Officer At Funeral

Georgia Lynn Baker Booked Into Jail On Felony Murder Charges

Services were held Wednesday morning for Department of Public Safety Officer Chris Marano, who was struck by a fellow officer during a high-speed pursuit Thursday night.

Marano, 28, was throwing out stop sticks as other officers pursued an allegedly stolen SUV. The SUV swerved to avoid hitting him, but another officer didn't see Marano until it was too late, DPS said.

DPS believes Georgia Lynn Baker, 43, was behind the wheel of the SUV. She was booked into jail on multiple charges -- among them, first-degree murder -- on Sunday evening.

DPS Director Roger Vanderpool remembered Marano as a "young man with lots of heart" who wanted to be a Navy SEAL.

Vanderpool also described how Marano loved his job as a DPS officer.

Marano leaves behind his wife and four daughters.
