Police: OxyContin Thief Hits 12 Pharmacies
Officials Say Man Has Robbed Stores Across Valley

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Police said they need the public's help finding a man who has been stealing drugs from Valley pharmacies.Police said the man has stolen from 12 stores in the past eight months. Officers said the crimes are committed in broad daylight and the robber is bringing his gun with him.Silent Witness Sgt. Darren Burch described which areas have been hit so far. "Six times in Phoenix, two in Peoria, one each in Scottsdale, Glendale, Surprise and Tempe," he said.Burch said the thief has stolen huge amounts of the drug OxyContin from stores across the Valley."He goes from having no weapon and just threatening a weapon, to displaying knives, to displaying handguns," Burch said.So far, the robber has targeted just about every major pharmacy from Safeway to Bashas', Albertsons, Walgreens and CVS stores, police said."He'll come in very nicely dressed, average, and he'll walk up as if he's going to purchase something and then he displays the weapon and asks that they give him some OxyContin," Burch said.Police said the robber is between 30 and 35 years old. He's between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs between 155 and 170 pounds. They said his medium length brown hair is typically combed back and sometimes his face is unshaven.Silent Witness is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
