FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Five small homemade bombs were found Wednesday morning in and around the Mountain View residence hall at Northern Arizona University, school officials said.The devices, made from plastic bottles, contained hydrochloric acid and aluminum foil, said Tom Bauer of NAU. Campus police said the bombs were designed to expand and burst, inflicting serious injuries and property damage.One NAU police officer who breathed fumes from the devices was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center as a precautionary measure. No other symptoms or injuries have been reported.One device detonated in a hallway inside Mountain View residence hall, causing damage to carpeting, Bauer said. Two devices detonated outside the building, causing no damage, he said. One was detonated by the Flagstaff Police Department and the last was neutralized.Staff from the Office of Residence Life has sent a crime alert to residents of the hall and will monitor the building throughout the holiday weekend.People with information are urged to call NAU campus police at 928-523-3611.
