Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrested three U.S. Army soldiers during its two-day crime-suppression sweep Tuesday, authorities said.

According to a news release from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Dwayne Campbell, Llewellyn Stamoulis and Romaine May were taken into custody after deputies discovered 680 pounds of marijuana and $10,000 in cash during a north Phoenix traffic stop.

The three men were wearing fatigues and identified themselves with government-issued photo military identification cards, deputies said.

The men were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, drug transportation, money laundering and conspiracy. The driver was also charged with driving with a suspended license.

By the end of the operation, deputies had arrested 51 suspects and 37 suspected illegal immigrants. Thirty-four of the suspected illegal immigrants will be charged under state human smuggling laws.

The other three suspected illegal immigrants were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
