AVONDALE, Ariz. -- While most people are cutting back on family trips and saving every penny they can, thousands of people opened their wallets wide this weekend at businesses around the Phoenix International Raceway. In between the sounds of cars racing around the track, and fans cheering on their favorite driver, you'll hear cash registers ringing up sales left and right. It's music to the ears of businesses around Zoomtown. They've been waiting for this for more than six months.No. 1 Brothers Pizza worker Darren William Gibson said, "It's been crazy, it's been a nuthouse, everybody's swarming in, just nonstop business all day."Business owners said they're happy to put tough times on the back burner, at least for the weekend.
