PHOENIX -- A Phoenix police officer accidentally shot himself in the ankle during a training session Monday, authorities said.

According to a representative with the Phoenix Police Department, the officer was holstering his service weapon when he accidentally discharged the round.

The injury was non-life-threatening, and the officer was taken to a local hospital, police said.

The officer was not a recent recruit, the representative said.
