PHOENIX -- A 62-year-old woman was hospitalized Friday evening after a car driven by a 14-year-old girl struck her and her dog, authorities said.In a news release, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said the girl took the car without her mother's knowledge and lost control, striking the woman and the dog.The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment of a broken leg, D'Evelyn said. He did not know the woman's current condition; however, he said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening on Friday. The dog ran from the scene, but family members found it and took it to a local veterinarian for treatment of minor injuries, D'Evelyn said.Deputies released the girl into her mother's custody pending further investigation, D'Evelyn said. Although there were no obvious signs of driving under the influence, deputies also took a urine sample from the girl for testing.
