A spokesperson for the Tucson Border Patrol Section refused to provide the name of the off-duty agent arrested by Phoenix police during a prostitution sting.

“He's on administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation by the Phoenix Police Department,” said Mario Escalante, spokesperson, Tucson Border Patrol Section.

Police allowed a CBS 5 News crew to ride along during one of the operations, which was conducted in the Maryvale precinct near 51st Avenue and the Interstate 10.

During the sting, female officers were used as decoys.

“I have officers acting as decoys, and the customers will make deals with the decoys who are officers, and we will arrest those subjects,” explained Lt. Jacqui MacConnell, of the Phoenix Police Department.

Phoenix police confirmed the off-duty Border Patrol agent was arrested Friday night. Officers on scene also said that the man offered $40 for sex to one of the decoys.

The off-duty agent was wearing a Cardinals football jersey and appeared to cooperate with officers. Police on scene were observed emptying a weapon he had with him.

“As federal agents, border patrol agents are authorized to carry their duty weapon on or off duty," said Escalante.

Escalante would not confirm whether the weapon the agent had with him was his duty weapon. He also refused to address whether the agent would face discipline if he’s found guilty.

CBS 5 News has filed a public information request with the Phoenix Police Department for more details on this case.
