Fire Breaks Out At Jailed Iraqi Dad's Home

PHOENIX -- Glendale fire crews are investigating an early morning garage fire at the home of an Iraqi immigrant accused of running down his daughter in what authorities call an 'honor killing,' but there's no indication the fire was intentionally set. Glendale Fire Department spokesman Daniel Valenzuela said the cause is undetermined, but there's no sign of an arson. He said there was a barbecue smoker in the garage of the home near 75th and Glendale avenues.A person inside the home heard a smoke alarm, went to investigate, and notified the fire department. Valenzuela said nine people escaped unharmed at about 4 a.m. because of the smoke alarm warning.Faleh Hassan Almaleki is accused of running down his daughter and her boyfriend's mother on Oct. 20 in Peoria. His daughter, Noor Faleh Almaleki, died Monday.The other woman, Amal Khalaf, is in serious but stable condition.
