PHOENIX -- Less than a week after a bird strike forced a plane to make an early landing at Sky Harbor, a small plane landed with a shattered windscreen in Show Low, Ariz., authorities said. The twin-engine Ameriflight Beechcraft C99 departed from Phoenix on Thursday morning, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said. The bird strike happened about 18 miles west of Show Low, Gregor said. The impact shattered the windscreen, but the pilot, identified as Roger Wutke, only suffered minor facial cuts, Gregor said.Wutke was the only person onboard the Ameriflight Beechcraft C99, Gregor said. The impact was so violent it knocked the glasses and headset off Wutke.A spokesman for Ameriflight cargo said Wutke was taken to a Show Low-area hospital where he received eight stitches to his face. The FAA had issued a Notice to Airmen on Wednesday regarding birds in the area.
