A Glendale father accused of mowing down his daughter because she was too Westernized is now on suicide watch, canceling his Thursday arraignment, authorities said.

Prosecutors were expected file harsher charges against Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, in the death of his daughter, 20-year-old Noor Faleh Almaleki.

Faleh Almaleki, an Iraqi immigrant, was originally charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Peoria Police Department spokesman Mike Tellef said detectives and prosecutors with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office are determining what the new charges against Almaleki will be.

Almaleki is accused of using his Jeep Grand Cherokee to run down his daughter and her friend, 43-year-old Amal Edan Khalaf, in a parking lot in Peoria Oct. 20.

Almaleki fled the country, but U.K. Port of Entry authorities denied him entry into London. He was put on a flight back to the U.S., and authorities arrested him upon his arrival in Atlanta

County prosecutors a judge during a weekend hearing that Almaleki admitted to committing the crime.

Khalaf remains in serious but stable condition, police said.
