Officers Say Teens Steal Car, Shoot at Resident

Three teens face a number of charges, including attempted homicide, in connection with an overnight crime spree in Chandler, police said.

Two of the teens, age 16, targeted a car to burglarize in the 300 block of east Commonwealth Avenue and found a key in the ignition, said Detective David Ramer of the Chandler Police Department.

The teens stole the vehicle and picked up a 15-year-old friend who was armed with a gun, Ramer said.

The trio then burglarized a vehicle in the 1700 block of east Camino Street, Ramer said.

Afterward, one of the 16-year-olds saw a resident standing near a front window of the home where they were committing the burglary, Ramer said.

The teen grabbed the gun from the 15-year-old, took aim at the resident and fired one shot, Ramer said. The bullet missed and no one was hurt, he said.

The teens then fled in the stolen vehicle and drove to a field near Chandler Boulevard and McQueen Road where they set the car on fire, Ramer said.

Officers said they located the burglars leaving the scene of the fire and took them into custody.

Numerous charges have been fired with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, including second-degree attempted homicide.
