Bag Thefts Increase Calls For More Security

PHOENIX -- The theft of 1,000 bags from carousels at Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport is spurring calls for increased surveillance.Some passengers called for greater watchfulness by airport security after the thefts were revealed today.Phoenix police arrested a husband and wife, Keith and Stacy Legg-King, in connection with the theft of luggage at the airport.Police said the Keith King would swipe luggage from the baggage carousels.Even after the arrests, CBS 5 News cameras caught baggage sitting unclaimed on carousels for nearly an hour before being removed by airline personnel on Tuesday.A Sky Harbor representative said most airports and airlines dropped tagged bag checks years ago in a cost savings move.Airlines said they are working with Phoenix police to increase surveillance and talking with partners at the terminals to beef up security.
