UPDATED: 1:44 pm MST November 3, 2009

A Surprise traffic stop ended in a suicide early Tuesday morning when the vehicle's driver slit his throat, authorities said.

According to a news release from the Surprise Police Department, officers stopped George Lajeunesse, 43, because he was wanted for questioning in connection with a domestic violence call.

During the traffic stop, Lajeunesse brandished a large kitchen knife, police said. He refused to drop the weapon, and the officer deployed a Taser stun gun while Lajeunesse sat in his car.

Lajeunesse then slit his own throat, police said.

Officers rendered first aid until paramedics arrived, and Lajeunesse was airlifted to a nearby medical center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The incident is currently under investigation, police said.
