PHOENIX -- Three children were taken to a local hospital Monday night after police said they were burned when an aerosol can was thrown into a fire.It happened in the back yard of a home in the 8300 block of West Watkins.Police said Cody Hutchens, 32, was arrested because he was drinking and letting kids throw the aerosol paint cans into the fire. That's when they said his 4-year-old and 7-year-old children and a 12-year-old neighbor were hurt.An 8-year-old neighborhood boy was not hurt.Twelve-year-old victim Joshanae Davis explained what happened. "You know how in the movies where an explosion happens, well, yeah, it exploded like boosh," she said.Davis is back home with bandages on her first and second-degree burns. The memories of what happened Monday night are as fresh as her wounds.Court records show there were seven fires in the back yard Monday night, and police said the man who lives there, 32-year-old Cody Hutchens, was drunk, spraying the fire and throwing the cans in.Joshanae's mom, Tinecka Ahumada, said, "That man playing with fire and throwing cans, explosions, blowing up stuff with his kids in the back yard."According to police, Hutchens' two kids were in the back yard with Joshanae and her younger brother. One of the boys threw the spray can that exploded, badly burning Hutchens' 4- and 7-year old children and Joshanae on their faces and upper bodies.Police records show Hutchens didn't call 911. He told officers he didn't think the burns were that bad.Hutchens faces child endangerment, child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and aggravated assault charges.
