Police: Hit-And-Run Suspect Crossed Border

Faleh Almaleki Accused Of Mowing Down Daughter Noor Almaleki Because She Was 'Too Westernized,' Police Say

The man who police believe ran over his daughter and her friend in a parking lot traveled to Mexico City and London before he was arrested Thursday, police said.

Police said Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, ran over his daughter Noor Almaleki, 20, and her friend Amal Edan Khalef, a 43-year-old Surprise resident, as they walked out of the building at 89th and Peoria avenues.

According to a news release from the Peoria Police Department, after running the two women over, he drove his Jeep over the border, abandoning it in Nogales, Mexico. Authorities later located and seized the car.

Faleh Almaleki then made his way to Mexico City and boarded a plane to London, where upon his arrival, U.K. Port of Entry authorities denied him entry into the country, police said.

U.S. law enforcement offices were contacted, and Almaleki was put back on a plane to the U.S., and he was arrested late Thursday afternoon upon his arrival in Atlanta, police said. He awaits extradition to Arizona, where he will face two counts of aggravated assault.

According to Peoria police public information officer Mike Tellef, Faleh Almaleki ran over the women because he was angry with his daughter.

He believed "she had become too 'westernized' and was not living according to their traditional Iraq values and had made threats towards her," according to the news release.

At the time of the crash, Noor Almaleki was living with Khalaf, police said.

Noor Almaleki is still unconscious in the hospital, police said. Khalaf remains in serious but stable condition.
