ZIP Slip Cancels Man's Insurance

POSTED: 9:20 pm MST September 15, 2009
UPDATED: 9:44 am MST September 16, 2009

A Gold Canyon man said when the post office changed his ZIP code recently, it changed his life, too.

Don Tianen said after his ZIP code was changed in July, Medicare canceled his health insurance policy because it looked as though he had moved.

Tianen said he's lived in the same Apache Junction area home for the last 10 years.

Tianen contacted Medicare, his insurance agent, and his provider, United Health Care, and filed a complaint; however, he was told it would take 30 days to clear up.

Tianen said he was notified he'd lost his insurance five weeks ago, and he said he can't afford to get sick or even go in for a check-up until this is settled.

United Health Care promised to look into his complaint soon.
