PHOENIX -- A Valley mom scammed over the Internet is thanking CBS 5 News for helping her drive away with her own car. Most people dread going to Arizona's Motor Vehicle Division office, but not Kathi Halvorsen."The title is in my name, finally after six months when I bought the car," Halvorsen said.Last February, Halvorsen responded to an ad on Craigslist and paid $1800 for a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. She paid cash and got a receipt, but the owner had a criminal history and lien on the vehicle, which meant Halvorsen couldn't get the vehicle in her name unless she paid the old owner's assessment fees of more than $1500.CBS 5 News stepped in and contacted MVD officials who contacted the Maricopa County attorney's office. This week, a judge waived the lien so Halvorsen can now legally drive her own car."In most cases the court does not lift a lien without it being satisfied, but there there were special circumstances here," said MVD representative Cydney Demodica."I am very grateful to everyone," said Halvorsen "I can't begin to tell you how elated I am."
