Woman: Friend's Accident Was Scam

POSTED: 9:27 pm MST July 9, 2009
UPDATED: 8:38 am MST July 10, 2009

Chandler police have alleged for weeks that Omeika Ballard intentionally threw herself into a moving car in a Wal-Mart parking lot so she could try and collect on insurance money, and now one of her friends says it was a scam.

"She told me it was a lie," Vadis Bonner said in an interview.

Bonner claimed that Ballard told her she had injured herself a few days before the parking lot incident, but she needed a way to pay for the medical bills, so she allegedly put herself in the path of car that was backing up and told police the driver hit her on purpose.

Police have charged Ballard with false reporting.

Released 911 tapes revealed that Ballard asked for an ambulance to take her to the hospital after the incident.

"I don't think the taxpayers need to be paying for her scam," said Bonner.

Bonner said she wants to help police out with their case against Ballard.
