Family: Hit-And-Run Was Not Phony

Police: Video Exposes That Parking Lot Accident Was Faked

POSTED: 8:34 pm MST July 3, 2009
UPDATED: 11:51 pm MST July 3, 2009

The family of a woman accused of intentionally walking into a moving car in order to collect insurance money says police are wrong.

Omeika Ballard has been charged with filing a false report after police determined that she wanted to get hit by a car in a Wal-Mart parking lot as a scam to get insurance money.

The Chandler police report cited two witnesses who said they saw Ballard intentionally move into a moving car.

Police said surveillance video from the story paints a similar picture.

But Ballard's grandmother said the woman is telling the truth.

"I trust her and I know she's not a liar," said Vadis Bonner.

Bonner admitted that she has not seen the video, but said that she would take a look.
