PHOENIX -- The Arizona Department of Public Safety said its officers will be taking part in various DUI task force operations across the state in an effort to crack down on drunken drivers over the Fourth of July weekend. The Pima County Sheriff's Office and the Tempe Police Department also have their own plans for the holiday weekend. The sheriff's office will operate two sobriety checkpoints in southern Arizona, while Tempe police will work in cooperation with the Chandler Police Department to host a DUI task force. The locations of the checkpoints have been identified because of alcohol-related arrests and collisions and recent alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes, the sheriff's office said.DPS is also asking motorists not to stop and watch fireworks along emergency lanes on interstates, freeways and highways.Stopping in an emergency lane to watch fireworks is dangerous because of passing traffic and can lead to a ticket.
