PHOENIX -- A suspected illegal immigrant has been indicted in connection with the molestation of an 11-year-old girl at an Avondale self-service laundry, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said in a statement Monday.

Osvaldo Mercado-Ortiz, 22, allegedly molested the girl the morning of June 7, the county attorney's office said. When police arrested him, he gave them a fake name, according to the probable cause statement filed by the Avondale Police Department.

Mercado-Ortiz was indicted Tuesday on charges of sexual conduct with a minor and false reporting to a law enforcement agency, the county attorney's office said.

Mercado-Ortiz is being held without bond, the county attorney's office said. Authorities suspect he is in the country illegally.
