A toddler and two adults were killed and three other people injured in a two-car crash Saturday morning in the southwest part of the city.

The victims were identified as Andres Chacon, 19; Blanca Garcia, and a 3-year-old child whose name has not been released.

Laura Hernandez-Urbina, 33, suffered critical injuries. Two others injured were identified as Melky Munoz, 34, and Juan Loera, 20.

The car Loera had been operating was eastbound on W. Lower Buckeye Road when a sport utility vehicle driven by Hernandez-Urbina entered Buckeye Road to westbound and struck the car broadside near 87th Avenue, said police spokesman Detective James Holmes.

"I live a block away," said Debra Wesley, a witness. "I heard the big boom, and came running out. I just saw the bodies."

The 3-year-old victim and Garcia were ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Chacon, the front-seat passenger in the car, also suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Holmes said.

The injured were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Witnesses told police that, just before the collision, Loera had been speeding, Holmes said.

Holmes said alcohol and/or drugs may be a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
