Hiker's Body Found In Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. -- A body searchers found on Tuesday is presumed to be a missing 69-year-old hiker from Surprise, Grand Canyon National Park officials said.Park rangers had been searching for Robert Williams since May 26, when his family reported that he was overdue after a Memorial Day weekend hike in the canyon.Rangers found his car near the South Rim the next day.The search area was narrowed after people who had encountered Williams on his hike reported where they saw him.Rangers using spotting scopes began looking for Williams on slopes where he might have fallen.They located the body on Tuesday about 200 feet below the hermit trail and flew it out of the canyon.The remains were taken by helicopter to the South Rim helibase where they were transferred to the Coconino County medical examiner.
