PHOENIX -- AAA Arizona has launched a new program for the summer called “Tipsy Tow.”If you have too much to drink, call AAA and you and your vehicle will be towed home for free. The program is open to everyone. You don't need to be a AAA member to take advantage of the service.“Part of AAA’s mission is ensuring the safety, security and peace of mind for members,” said Linda Gorman, public affairs director for AAA Arizona.“This Memorial Day, we saw a way we could contribute to this mission by discouraging those who do drink from getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle," Gorman said. "Instead, they can call AAA and we’ll make sure they get home safely.”AAA Arizona’s Tipsy Tow program will launch over Memorial Day weekend. The service will start at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 24, and will run through midnight on Monday, May 25.During this period, drivers, potential passengers, party hosts, bartenders and restaurant managers can call 1-800-AAA-HELP (1-800-222-4357) for a free tow home of up to 10 miles.Callers can simply tell the AAA operator, “I need a Tipsy Tow,” to receive the free tow and ride home.AAA Arizona will also offer the Tipsy Tow service for Independence Day and Labor Day this summer.AAA estimates that a first-time DUI conviction can cost a motorist more than $10,000 in fines, penalties, restitution, ignition interlock installation and maintenance, legal fees and increased insurance costs.
