MCSO Announces Furloughs

PHOENIX -- In an effort to cut $17 million from its budget, furloughs are in the works at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.Sheriff Joe Arpaio confirmed nearly 800 deputies and 300 support personnel would be forced to take a furlough of seven days, or 56 hours.Arpaio said the furloughs are a better alternative than layoffs. He said the department may have to make some adjustments, but public safety would not be compromised.Detention officers will not be impacted.
