PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz -- Lisa Montonati and her daughter Christina, 13, say they were enjoying the scenery on a trail near Stoneridge Drive and Highway 69 when they heard someone yell, "Cat!"The next thing Montonati said she saw was a bobcat clutching her daughter's leg."I was trying to kick it off," Christina said. That's when Montonati's maternal instinct kicked in."I ran over and grabbed him," Montonati said. But the bobcat grabbed onto her arm."I couldn't get him off me," she said. "It latched onto my arm, kind of biting and cutting, so I grabbed it by the neck."Montonati said she struggled with the cat for some time, and 30 puncture wounds later, she finally got the cat off her arm.Hoarse from yelling, Montonati said they believe the bobcat was rabid given its aggressive nature. When Prescott Valley police returned to the trail, officers say the bobcat lunged toward officers, and officers fired their guns, killing the animal. The Montonatis said they would return to that spot in the future since police shot and killed the bobcat.Right now, Arizona Fish and Game has the animal and will test it to see if it was rabid.
