MESA, Ariz. -- A Valley doctor is in trouble with the Arizona Medical Board for the third time.Earlier this month, Dr. Mark Goldberg was censured and given five years of probation. The problems stem from laser hair removal treatments his office performed on a 34-year-old woman.According to board records, “there was no documented medical history and physical exam … and laser equipment and technicians were not properly registered and the technicians did not complete the laser technology course.”Goldberg said that the treatments in question were completed at a north Scottsdale business that he has since sold.He said that he had been unaware that technicians and equipment needed to be certified. When he opened the business, he said that was not a requirement. He added that for laser hair removal treatments, it is not the standard of care for physicians to personally examine patients.Goldberg currently has a family practice in east Mesa. He said he does not perform laser hair removal treatments there. The Arizona Medical Board also took actions against Goldberg twice in 1996. In both cases, the board cited “unprofessional conduct.”
