'Fire Everywhere,' Says Explosion Victim

Courtney Moran said she has seen the video of an explosion at a Chandler gas station that nearly killed her, her fiancé and their 18-month-old daughter, but can not fully grasp that it is her on the television screen.

"It's still not real to me," Moran said. "I watch the video and go, 'Oh my gosh, that's us.'"

Moran and her fiancé, Jacob Marion, were at a Chandler gas station just a few days ago. Moran and their 18-month-old daughter, Emerie, were in the back seat of their car, while Marion was pumping gas.

Marion's friend, Micah Mosley, came out of the gas station's convenience store after having bought a pack of cigarettes. Mosley was playing with his lighter, Marion said.

"(He was) just joking around, so I told him to stop," Marion said. "I tried to hit it out of his hands, so the flame would go out. Right when I started to move my hand, it just exploded right in my face."

Mosley was holding the lighter in close proximity to the gas pump. It ignited, sending a fireball into the air.

"It was right in my face. It singed my hair and my eyelashes," Marion said.

"I looked at my daughter and thought, 'This is it,'" Moran added. "I was expecting the car to just blow up or something."

The car, however, did not blow up. Instead, Marion suffered burns to his leg from the fire, but was able to get his daughter out of the back seat.

Moran crawled out of the front window of the car. She and Marion ran to safety with their daughter.

"I couldn't feel anything. I couldn't think. I just acted," Moran said.

Mosley suffered the worst burns of the group. He is currently at Maricopa Medial Center recovering. Mosley, a soldier who was on leave from Iraq, will be there a month, according to his mother.

Moran and Marion said they are not mad at Mosley. They do, however, hope that people grasp the seriousness of the situation and learn from it.

"Don't mess around (like Mosley did). It's not a joke," Marion said.

"You mess around and you don't think before you act and something so serious can happen," said Moran.

The couple said their daughter was not even aware of what was happening. She is doing just fine.
