Man Reunited With Lost Ring After 32 Years

In 1977 in Kansas City, Mo., Richard Brack found what he knew was someone's lost class ring.

"I saw a little glimmer out of the corner of my eye and reached down in the gravel and picked it up," Brack said.

Brack said he knew it was important to the owner and he wanted to get it back to them.

The ring was engraved with the name "Gladewater High School," the year 1970, and the initials, "DEC." Brack began to search for the owner with the limited information he had.

The years passed and Brack still hadn't found the ring's owner. Then, he searched the Internet and found a man in Texas who could help him.

"About a week ago, he sent me an e-mail saying, 'I think you're looking for a fellow by the name of Deane'," Brack said.

After 32 years of a seemingly endless search, Brack finally tracked down the owner of the ring -- Deane Carter of Phoenix.

"I asked him where he went to high school, and he told the name of the school and it wasn't Gladewater," Brack said. "I was about to hang up when I said, 'What year did you graduate?'"

Carter confirmed even though Gladewater wasn't his alma mater, the ring was, in fact, his.

"I got the ring my junior year, moved my senior year and graduated somewhere else," Carter said.

Brack went to the post office and sent the ring to Carter overnight. Thirty-two years was long enough to wait.

Carter said he doesn't plan to wear the ring; he would rather keep it in a jewelry box so he doesn't lose it again.

"You lose something small like a ring and you don't even think about it anymore," Carter said. "Suddenly, you get a phone call and it's coming back to you ... Once in a lifetime. What can I say?"
