Robber Sought, Tied To 5 Holdups

A man who robbed five Mesa businesses is on the loose and police need help identifying him.

The first robbery occurred on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Payday Loan at 1155 S. Power Road. A man entered the business, placed a plastic bag on the counter and displayed a knife, said Detective Michael Melendez of the Mesa Police Department.

The man told the employee to give him all of the money and the clerk complied, Melendez said.

On Feb. 9, between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., a CVS store at 1151 E. Mckellips Road, a Residence Inn at 941 W. Grove and the Holiday Inn at 1600 S. Country Club were robbed.

In all three incidents, the man entered the business, approached the counter and displayed a knife, Melendez said. The man demanded all off the money from the register draw and in two of the incidents, the money was placed in a bag, he said.

On Feb. 10, at 7:45 p.m., a man entered the Best Western located at 1342 S. Power Road. while holding a knife and a plastic bag, Melendez said. The robber approached the counter and demanded that the clerk place the money in the bag, he said.

The man is described as being in his 40's. He is between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 150 to 170 pounds. He has very short dirty blond hair and missing teeth. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket, jeans and a bandana or baseball-style cap.
