SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Former Phoenix Suns star Charles Barkley was arrested early Wednesday morning by a Gilbert police officer on suspicion of drunken driving, investigators said.Barkley was pulled over in his 2005 Infiniti near 75th Street and 6th Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. for failure to stop at a stop sign by the officer working a DUI task force patrol in Old Town Scottsdale, one of the trendiest spots in the Phoenix area.During his interview with police, Barkley admitted to running the stop sign because he was in a hurry to drive around the corner to collect a sexual favor from a girl he had an encounter with last week, a newly-released police report said.Barkley, 45, failed standard field sobriety tests after the officer smelled alcohol on him, and he was arrested. Barkley declined to submit to a breath test but was given a blood test. The results weren't immediately available.Barkley was detained and taken to the mobile processing command post where he was processed, cited for DUI and released, police said.He was cooperative with officers and took a cab home, said Lt. Eric Shuhandler."There was nothing unusual about how he was taken into custody," Shuhandler said. "He was treated exactly like we treat anybody else."Barkley reportedly shook hands with officers and others at the command post."I am disappointed that I put myself in that situation," Barkley said in a statement to The Associated Press. "The Scottsdale police were fantastic. Now it is a legal matter and I will not comment any further as it is a legal matter."CBS 5 News went to Barkley's gated home and found his wife outside. She said she had no comment.
